Brendan Willing James is a singer, songwriter, and composer originally from San Pedro, CA. Growing up listening to his father's Warner Bros. records with 70s proto-rock group Montrose, and his mother's frequent spins of Emmylou Harris and The Beatles, James developed a style that weaves rock, pop, and folk in a style all his own.

He spent decades writing and performing as lead vocalist for California rock group Shades of Day, and later touring internationally as part of Swedish/American electro-folk band Grizfolk, supporting British pop-rock heavies Bastille and appearing on both The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Out now on his own Echo Magic imprint, James' newest album "In The Colors” is threaded with music written throughout the past decade. Warm, playful, sincere, and skillfully co-produced by Syd Sidney and Daniel Wright, the album features Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen on keys and synths and was mixed by Scott Hirsch of Hiss Golden Messenger.
